http://www.usembassy.at/de/policy/prostitution.htm

http://www.nodo50.org/Laura_Agustin/us- ... n-cambodia

THE STATE BUDGET:
Under consideration: Tax brothels, consider legalizing prostitution in Las Vegas
By David McGrath Schwartz
Thu, Jan 22, 2009 (2 a.m.)
Should prostitution be legalized in the state's urban areas?
Reader poll
* Yes. Make it legal in Las Vegas and Reno.
(316) (82%)
* No. Keep it illegal in the urban areas, but it's OK in rural areas.
(24) (6%)
* No. In fact, it should be illegal in all of Nevada.
(43) (11%)
Total Votes: 383
State Sen. Bob Coffin says legalization would create new revenue source, be safer for those who participate.
Carson City — In these tough budgetary times, the chairman of a key state Senate committee is willing to consider the world’s oldest profession as a potential source of new tax revenue.
State Sen. Bob Coffin said Tuesday he would be willing to grant a hearing on proposals to legalize and regulate prostitution in Las Vegas and other urban areas of the state where it’s illegal.
The Las Vegas Democrat, who heads the Senate Taxation Committee, said he also wants to look at taxing the state’s legal brothels in rural counties.
Only “the most naive person on the planet would believe there’s no prostitution going on in the urban areas,” Coffin said. “It’s going on now unregulated and unsafe.
“I have not decided about whether or not I’d support the legalization and control of it in urban areas. But I think it’s an idea worth entertaining.”
Prostitution is legal in most of Nevada’s rural counties, but state law prohibits it in counties with populations in excess of 400,000. That means there are no legal brothels in Las Vegas or Reno.
Previous suggestions that Nevada consider legalizing prostitution throughout the state have gone nowhere. This is the first time in recent memory that a legislator has taken up this issue, but such a proposal would face long odds.
Coffin, who is serving his final term in the Senate because of term limits, said he will focus primarily on getting additional money from legal rural brothels, strip clubs and escort services.
“I’d be happy to listen to arguments for legalization anytime,” Coffin said. “In the meantime, I know we have to get some money from the world’s oldest profession.”
Nevada is the only state to legalize prostitution. But it has an uneasy relationship with the industry. Though rural counties sometimes collect large fees from the businesses, the state has resisted taxing brothels because of the stigma attached to prostitution.
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, who has floated the idea of legalizing prostitution as a way to redevelop downtown Las Vegas, said in an interview Wednesday that he thinks there should be an open debate on legalizing it in Nevada’s cities.
Goodman said he recently met with a legislator, whom he declined to name, and “people in the industry” to discuss legalizing prostitution in Las Vegas.
“I’ve always said there should be a serious discussion,” Goodman said. “People assume it’s legal anyhow.”
The mayor said legalizing it would provide a good source of revenue for education and social services, would create a safer environment for all parties involved and reduce sexually transmitted diseases.
“Smart people can have serious discussions without fear of reprisal,” Goodman said. “Right now, there’s no benefit coming out of it for anybody and it’s rampant.”
Asked if he would initiate the conversations, Goodman said no. “But I’ll certainly join into the discussion.”
Coffin said he would consider the idea not only because of the state’s dire financial situation, but also to make the industry safer.
Las Vegas’ red-light district was shut down in the 1940s, when the Army, which operated the military base that would become Nellis Air Force Base, demanded the city close its brothels.
City leaders did and were satisfied when the servicemen spent money in casinos, according to the book “Las Vegas: A Centennial History.”
In 2004, Goodman suggested building a “little Amsterdam” red-light district downtown, but the resulting furor seemed to stall the idea.
County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, then a member of the Assembly, said the idea was worth a debate. Casino executives opposed it.
Any change in the law would require the approval of the Legislature, which is unlikely.
As one ranking Assembly Democrat said Wednesday: “There’s no chance in hell this passes.”
Correction: The original headline on this story about legalizing prostitution mischaracterized state Sen. Bob Coffin’s stance. As chairman of the Senate Taxation Committee, Coffin said he was willing to grant a hearing on proposals to legalize prostitution in the state’s urban areas, not that he supported doing so.

Hell rosa = Sperrbezirk

Die restlichen U.S.A. sind Sperrbezirk!
P.S.:

Sexworker @ Yale Law School
Sex Sells, But Should We Sell Sex?
This panel will examine prostitution, the world’s oldest profession, addressing the social and legal issues that surround it, including various legal approaches to prostitution, such as prohibition, legalization, and decriminalization.
By taking a worker safety and public health perspective to the issue of prostitution, and focusing on the human rights and dignity of sex workers, the panelists will shed light on legal approaches that disenfranchise [entrechten], endanger [gefährden], and force underground [unterdrücken] those who through choice or circumstance labor in the sex industry.
The panel will discuss the need for legal change to best protect the human rights and dignity of sex workers as well as the public.
* Sienna Baskin, Equal Justice Works Fellow, Sex Workers Project – Urban Justice Center
* Maxine Doogan, President and Founder, Erotic Service Providers Union (ESPU)
* Veronica Monet, Certified Sexologist and Sex Educator, Author, and Radio Show Host

Agentur-Kunden-Liste
http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/madoffvictimslist.pdf
163 Seiten.

Z. B. Goldman Sachs unten links:
Marktkapitalisierung 100 -> 56,
Kreisfläche (Verhältnis) 100 -> 31

Was sagt uns das?

CALL FOR COMMUNITY EXPERTISE:
Do you have personal experience in the justice system that you would share as part of SWOP’S 2009 Legal Resource Guide?
We are looking for short 2-500 word articles and quotes to publish in this years updated resource guide which will have lists of recommended lawyers and legal resources and be distributed to all chapters and during outreach events. Possible articles/topics that may be included:
* If there were 3-5 things I could tell other sex workers about getting arrested, going to court, choosing a lawyer, etc.
* What to expect after getting busted
* Common mistakes that get people arrested
* Using a public defender
* My experience with diversion programs
* Sexual harassment and assault from Law Enforcement
* Words from a sex worker parent
* I fought for my rights…and WON.
We seek to cover a broad range of predicaments that our community members feel comfortable sharing (pen name or anonymous is ok) as part of this guide. Ideally we would like to touch on 647b (solicitation of prostitution) type of charges, BDSM related arrests, exotic dancer legal resources, and a section of resources for parents. Regional chapter members who would like to contribute by calling your local area law offices and assessing if are in line with SWOP’s mission and should be listed in our resource guide is also needed. If you don’t have a copy of the last 2007 Legal Guide, go to swopusa.org and download a copy or email one of us and we will send it to you.

(pdf - 6 pages)
Please send mariko.passion at gmail your words of wisdom (informal is ok). This project is being edited by Tara Sawyer and Mariko Passion, but this is truly a community resource that is written BY and FOR all members of our network in the U.S.

San Francisco, California, February 23, 2009 In an act of harassment by the San Francisco Police Department, Shelly Resnick was falsely charged, and given a Citation on for "Solicitation to Engage in the Act of Prostitution" on November 12, 2009. On January 7, the District Attorney took it a step beyond the claims of the arresting officers and officially filed charges against Shelly for "Engaging in the act of Prostitution" alleging that Shelly engaged in prostitution with an SFPD Officer.
"These charges are completely false." states Shelly as no such act took place. Shelly strongly disputes the content of the police report as patently false. "This is harassment and discrimination." Shelly has been speaking with local attorneys and activists who suggest that Shelly was likely a direct target after her extensive work on the campaign for Prop K. fighting for the decriminalization of sex work Shelly was set up on a police sting. She did not solicit and nor did she agree to any act of prostitution, but she was cited anyway.
"The police have no evidence to support these charges” says Acire Roche of Sex Worker Outreach Project." In the police report, SFPD claim that the day after the election, an allegedly unidentified person sent an "anonymous complaint" saying that Shelly was sending text messages to random phone numbers asking for sexual services. “This is absurd," says Acire, "This did not occur, and of course SFPD has absolutely no record or evidence of this."
Sex Worker Outreach Project joins Shelly in support at her hearing, protesting this discrimination and misconduct. "Ms. Resnick filed a complaint with Office of Citizen Complaints on November 19th. SWOP and Ms. Resnick will resist these false charges and vows to bring to light this misconduct and discrimination by the SFPD."
SWOP-USA in conjunction with BAYSWAN and other Bay Area transsexual and sexworker organizations, will be conducting a peaceful protest in the front of the Courthouse.

FBI befreit 45 Kinderprostituierte

Prostitution is now apparently a federal crime

Remember when we were all discussing the silly idea that the House had come up with in their version of the TVPRA? The one that proposed that the FBI should be fighting prostitution as it is “synonymous with trafficking”? Well, turns out that legislation never needed to be passed. The FBI is currently fighting prostitution in a nation-wide sweep under the guise of fighting child prostitution. It is a modern-day witch-hunt. How many consenting adult women’s lives have been ruined by these costly and ineffective arrests?
…some 17 FBI agents and plainclothes officers were struggling to arrest two kicking and screaming young women…
Seventeen to two??
…one of the women screamed at the top of her lungs, then rolled around on the floor hyperventilating…
Wow.
…the FBI, Boston police, and State Police said they were at the hotel conducting an undercover investigation as part of “Operation Cross Country,” a nationwide initiative of the US Justice Department aimed at cracking down on child prostitution…
Didn’t the Justice Department come out against the demands of the House version?
“Generally, these things can be investigated and taken down quietly, but sometimes circumstances outside our control occur,” said Russell Kleber, a spokesman for the FBI’s Boston office, adding that the arrests were “aimed at combating sex trafficking of children.”
The goal of the sweeps, being conducted in over 30 cities, is to target pimps, rescue juveniles, and gather intelligence, according to law enforcement officials.
The Boston sting led to the arrests of five women, ages 19 to 33, who allegedly showed up at the Marriott after agreeing to provide sex for up to $300 an hour to undercover officers. The officers had responded to advertisements posted on the Craigslist website, according to Boston police reports.
Apparently as of last October they had arrested 600 adult prostitutes in this “sweep”. According to a report from 1987 (quoted in this article- I have a copy of the actual paper if anyone wants one), it cost police about $2000 per arrest. That’s $1.2 million 1987 dollars. Extrapolate that to today’s dosh, and then add in how much more the FBI officers presumably make than the local and state police, and you’ve got a hefty sum of cash being spent on arresting adults engaging in consensual activity. Shouldn’t they be investigating other things? Like terrorism or fraud, perhaps?
This “sweep” is clearly a modern-day witch hunt, persecuting women. The house seems to have gotten their way. Will this continue under Obama?
Meanwhile, working folks, beware of Craigslist. They’re out to get you.

Sign this and help sex workers in Arizona (AZ)!
Signing this petition will help sex workers in AZ!
Sheriff Joe has been awful to sex workers.
He says it is OK for cops to have sex with sex workers then arrest them, because the cops are protecting the wives business men who are seeing the sex workers on lunch break. With his influence, the AZ legislature mandated 15 days jail time for first arrest for prostitution, no diversion, and the 4th arrest is a felony with two years prison.
Sheriff Joe needs to GO!!!
Sing, and get everyone you know to sign!!
The Barbaric Sheriff of Maricopa County
Dear Susan,
After more years than I can count doing this kind of work, I'll tell you: it's not easy to shock me.
But the barbaric sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona doesn't only shock me, he appalls and enrages me.
Sheriff Arpaio is treating immigrants in the worst, most inhumane ways-most recently by marching them in chains through the streets to an outdoor tent city with an electric fence.
It's sickening, saddening, and it must stop. Please, I urge you, sign our petition today calling for an investigation into Sheriff Arpaio's barbaric actions.
Along with several members of Congress, ACORN has been calling for this investigation for some time. Sheriff Arpaio's reaction has been that he doesn't care what a couple of people think. That's why bringing his actions to the attention of hundreds of thousands of people is so very critical. So, once you've signed the petition, I hope you'll ask others to do the same.
Sheriff Arpaio has a long, disturbing history of abuse of the worst kind. Racial profiling, retaliatory arrests aimed at silencing his critics, and forced family separations are all part of his arsenal. His actions are an affront to anyone who cares about human rights and, at least to my mind, are the logical outcome of a police state mentality that sees the only solution to our immigration challenge coming at the end of a gun.
We've entered a new era in this country-and Sheriff Arpaio just isn't part of it. Thank you in advance for standing with ACORN and with immigrants and seeing that he is investigated and removed.
In solidarity and strength,
Bertha Lewis
ACORN CEO and Chief Organizer
