Medienschelte: "What would be nice is if the media stopped calling them the Brothel Brothers - it's a bit of a smack in the face with legitimate businessmen whose adult industry sector is only in a small proportion of the properties they own".
- Auckland rumors about glamorous flagship brothel in the $10m penthouse apartment on top of the Hilton on Viaduct Basin.
- Wellington back then, Courtenay Place business interests feared the whole strip could become a red- light district and tried to stop the Mermaid bar opening. Wellington City Council was powerless as the club complied with district plan rules, but to placate objectors it
changed planning rules to prevent other sex businesses moving to Courtenay Place. But it was a case of shutting the door after the whores had bolted. With potential competitors barred, the Chow Group's enterprise was guaranteed sole status in the city's prime entertainment strip. So wird aus einer Politik der Prostitutions-Eindämmung ein Monopolisten-Schutz für etablierte Betreiber.
Prostitution is, of course, no longer [2003] illegal in New Zealand,
but the social stigma remains. This was underlined last year, when the Chow Group attempted to sell the Vivian St building where they operate their swanky
Il-Bordello. It was withdrawn from auction at the last minute after Bayleys agents were told would-be buyers did not want to be seen bidding for a building with bordello in a public auction room.
These men have made their money - the enormous cash flow that fuelled their fast-growing business - off women selling themselves, some [misoharlotric person] said.

Die Prostitutionsgegner sind auch nicht fern:
Chows' brothel business, claiming girls aged just 18-21 are rostered on 17-hour shifts, charged for towels, linen, ads, marketing plus a $400 administration fee. The girls also pay for their own lubricants and condoms. Customers pay around $220 an hour and the women get $100-$120 of that.

"Monsignor David Tonks, pastoral assistant to Catholic Bishop Patrick Dunn, has expressed concerns about more brothels, predicting more crime, particularly murders."
The Prostitutes' Collective supports the expansion, a spokesperson saying she was disappointed there had been opposition to the project.

Sexworker sind dafür, sind ja ihre Arbeitsplätze.
Aber es gibt sicher eine Spaltung der Meinungen zwischen Sexworkern die unabhängig arbeiten wollen und diejenigen die in solchen Clubs besser verdienen...
