Some of my impressions for IUSW-list members
During world football tournament Germany 2006, many campaigners against trafficking and prostitution emerged. They created material shown in the exhibition box. The card on the very bottom left was design by an agency next door to me in Frankfurt to educate punters by giving rules of best practise for buying sex -

10 Rules - fair play. However the overall reception during that period of extended media hype only accounted for women organizations against prostitution.
William Thomas Stead, the editor of the popular paper "the Pull Mall Gazette" organized an under cover investigation and sting operation, exposing the sale of Eliza Armstrong by her parents in 1886. He arranges for the 13 years old girl to be sold for only 1 (one) British Pound. Then he writes the book: "The Maiden Tribute of Modern Babylon" against "White Slavery" i.e. trafficking in persons.
By that publication he helped the enactment of a parliaments bill raising the age of consent to 16 years.
After it was found out, that everything was arranged, he was convicted of unlawful abduction and sentenced to only 3 month of hard labour.

W.T. Stead-Law and the criminalisation of prostitution in London
"Das hatte Stead sicherlich nicht beabsichtigt", meint der Hugh Brewster, author of 'RMS Titanic: Gilded Lives on a Fatal Voyage'. "Aber es hatte Auswirkungen bis 1957, solange stand Homosexualität in England unter Strafe". Zehn Jahre nach Steads Bericht, der dies alles auslöste, wurde der schwule Schriftsteller Oscar Wilde aufgrund dieses Paragraphen ins Gefängnis geworfen.

How the working material of a "common prostitute" or the drug store articles of a modern sportive women is used as an argument against so called traffickers in persons.
Something a scientist would call a "mystic map". This map on trafficking shows many arrows and suggest very many cases. However no details and citations are given. The real existing cases seem very much exaggerated due to media hype and anti prostitution propaganda. Some in depth studies of real convictions or court cases reveal forced prostitution be only within percentages from free/negotiated/chosen prostitution.
The early pro prostitution movement in London: ECP founded 1975. I recommend "unionising" with them and inviting them to the IUSW list.
The power of definition or wording related to sex work is illustrated by the two male and female model bodies with the sex role inscriptions on them:
Male - two figures with:
Punter, John, Hobbyist, Stud.
Pimp, Whoremonger, Business Manager, Third Party Organizer, Bully, Souteneur.
Female - one figure with:
Pro, Hussy, Dollymop, Strumpet, Wench (Pornstar), Courtesan, Callgirl, Harridan, Harlot, Hooker, Painted Lady, Whore, Minx, Jade Pussie, Hosten, Floozy, Magdalene, Loose Women, Vice Girl, Poontang, Hustler, Midinette, Brass, Trollop, Slag, Bawd. Ho, Tart, Tramp. Scarlet Women, Want on, Concubine, SKIT, Working Girl, Escort, Fallen Women, Moll, Biddy, Slut, Dollymop, Doxy, Madam, Provider.
... some even more interesting details are still missing ...
E.g. the case of
Jane Percy:
Her body was found death in Basingstoke Canal after she was accused of being a prostitute by the police.
However on March 15th, 1875 she wrote an article published by a local newspaper about her calling to make her and her daughters living from prostitution. She describes it as her calling. She and her clients are enjoying and nobody is harmed.
But after forced with her older daughter to register as prostitute and have compulsory medical check up, she saw no perspective to have a valued social life in this world any more ...

This story and newspaper document is located in a very big glass showcase depicting the time line of prostitution and the life of Josephine Butler. It is in the upper row in the middle, where nobody really can read it.)
